UAB IT Policies

All users of UAB IT systems, including UAB Research Computing systems, must agree to all UAB relevant UAB IT policies. UAB IT policies may be found at https://www.uab.edu/it/home/policies.

The list of policies below are those that may be most relevant to typical use cases on UAB Research Computing systems. The list below is not an exhaustive list, and it is the responsibility of each individual using the system to be aware of and follow all relevant policies, whether listed here or not.

AI Usage Guidelines for IDEs and Cloud Services

All use of AI-powered tools, whether inside IDEs or via web interfaces, must comply with UAB’s AI Guidelines and other IT Policies.

Do not use any cloud-based AI service (where data is sent to external servers) with sensitive or restricted data unless you’ve received formal approval.

Examples of prohibited services without approval include: - Web Chat AI Tools: ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Grok, DeepSeek. - IDE Extensions and AI Assistants: Cursor, Cline, Windsurf, Trae.

To request approval for AI usage in your project, complete the UAB IT AI Request Form.

The following AI tools are permitted for use with UAB Single Sign-On (SSO) credentials, as they offer enterprise-grade protections for institutional data: - Copilot Web - Copilot 365 in Office 365. Requires a paid subscription see relevant section
